0Barcelona is delivering a daring signal before the summer transfer period: the team from Catalonia is convinced they can sign Erling Haaland to aid Hansi Flick’s reconstruction strategy.
With Robert Lewandowski’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, the striker position has become the top priority at Camp Nou. At 37, the Polish forward still plays a vital role, but Barca’s management understands the need to prepare for a new era. According to multiple sources in Spain, Haaland is the "dream target" Flick desires.
Board member Joan Soler, a close associate of president Joan Laporta, affirmed the club’s financial capability to carry out major signings. Speaking on Cadena Ser, he emphasized that Barca can sign star players like Haaland or Julian Alvarez and believes these deals "could pay for themselves within five years." Soler stated that the current financial structure is ready for a blockbuster contract.
However, Soler also acknowledged the club must be very cautious with the wage budget, confirming that Barca has set limits and will not break the financial framework. This shows that despite their confidence, the Catalan club remains fully aware of the constraints after years of economic difficulties.
From Flick’s perspective, the German coach sees Haaland as the perfect piece for his system. Since joining Manchester City in 2022 from Borussia Dortmund, the Norwegian striker has scored 153 goals and provided 28 assists in 184 matches, playing a key role in helping the English club win numerous titles. Haaland’s exceptional scoring ability, speed, and strength are considered ideal to bring Barca back to the top of European football.
Nevertheless, this deal is far from simple. Haaland still has a contract with Man City until 2034, and the English club has no intention of letting their star player leave. Barca understands that to trigger this "blockbuster," they need the right timing, especially if there are future changes in Man City’s coaching staff.
Alongside their grand ambitions, Barca is also preparing backup plans. Julian Alvarez is highly rated but the over £130 million price tag demanded by Atletico Madrid is a significant obstacle. Another option is Man City’s Omar Marmoush, who was on Barca’s radar when he played for Eintracht Frankfurt. However, Flick’s primary target remains Haaland.
