Former Chelsea star hospitalized due to a serious head injury in Serie A

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the ex-Chelsea and England player, was urgently admitted to hospital on Sunday following a serious head injury sustained during his time with AC Milan.

The 30-year-old midfielder, who has played for Chelsea and Crystal Palace, had his neck stabilized with a medical brace and was stretchered off the field bleeding heavily after a strong collision with the opposing goalkeeper.

The incident occurred when Loftus-Cheek contested the ball with Parma's goalkeeper. After the clash, he collapsed on the pitch, causing concern among his teammates. Medical staff took considerable time to assess the English midfielder’s condition on the field before deciding to transfer him to the hospital for detailed examinations.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Loftus-Cheek suffered a broken jaw and may be sidelined for several months. Italian media also reported that he lost a tooth and will undergo a long-term treatment and recovery process.

Sky Sport Italia reports that Loftus-Cheek has a fractured jaw and might be out of action for a few months.

Loftus-Cheek’s injury added to Milan’s difficult day as they lost 0-1 to Parma. Mariano Troilo scored the decisive goal in the 80th minute, sealing defeat for the Rossoneri.

This result leaves Milan 10 points behind Serie A leaders Inter Milan. Although currently in second place, Milan faces a tough challenge if they want to surpass their city rivals in the race for the Scudetto.

Since joining Milan from Chelsea in 2023, Loftus-Cheek has appeared in 95 matches and scored 13 goals.

Before moving to Italy, he made 155 appearances for Chelsea, including loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham.

If he recovers in time, Loftus-Cheek could still compete for a spot in England’s squad for the upcoming World Cup. He was recalled to the national team by coach Thomas Tuchel last year, after last representing the Three Lions in 2018.

However, with a broken jaw diagnosis and a potentially lengthy recovery period, the immediate future of the 30-year-old midfielder remains uncertain.
