Manchester United have officially announced the sale of their fifth player! The former favorite of Erik ten Hag is in negotiations to return to the Championship, with three more players potentially on the move.

Manchester United officially announced the permanent transfer of 21-year-old academy product Ethan Ennis to League One club Stockport County on Monday. The three-year deal is subject to registration. The Red Devils offered their farewell: 「Everyone at the club wishes Ethan (Ennis) all the best in his future endeavors.」

The transfer fee for Ennis was not disclosed, which typically indicates a low price, almost free of charge. However, like other academy graduates, Manchester United included clauses that could generate more significant income in the future. When Ennis next transfers, the Red Devils will receive 50% of the sell-on fee and have a priority buy-back option.

The young forward, who hails from Liverpool, joined Manchester United in 2021. Ennis had turned down a scholarship contract from Liverpool and even visited Chelsea's training ground before ultimately choosing United. The following year, he helped the club's under-18 side win the FA Youth Cup and then moved up to the U21 team.

However, his development was hampered by a serious injury, as he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. After a year of recovery, Ennis went on loan to Doncaster Rovers in the 2024/25 season, experiencing first-team football for the first time. Last season, he was again loaned out, this time to League Two club Fleetwood, where he made 46 appearances, scoring 6 goals and providing 8 assists.

Ennis never played for Manchester United's first team in any official match, but he expressed gratitude for the club's development. 「After five years of ups and downs, it's time to leave Manchester United and move forward,」 Ennis said. 「I will always be grateful for the memories, the people, and the experiences here, both on and off the pitch. It has been a great honor to wear the Manchester United shirt and fight for it. I want to sincerely thank all the coaches, staff, and teammates for making my time here so unforgettable. Ennis is only the fifth player sold by Manchester United in the summer window, which includes the previously confirmed deal for Hojlund. At Stockport, Ennis will meet a familiar face: another former United youngster, James Bailey, who joined the club on a free transfer after his contract expired this summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe's management team intends to continue selling academy players. According to BBC Sport, 22-year-old midfielder Toby Collyer is in talks with Championship side West Bromwich Albion about a potential permanent move to The Hawthorns.

Collyer was a favorite of former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, but subsequent coaches, including Michael Carrick, have not rated him highly. During pre-season, Collyer did get some playing time, but mainly because Mason Mount was injured. It is widely expected that Collyer will eventually be offloaded.

Last season, Collyer was loaned to West Brom, where he made 12 appearances, 3 of them starts, but suffered a serious calf injury and returned to United in January. In the second half of the season, after recovering, he was loaned to Championship side Hull City, but again only managed 5 games before his season was ended by injury.

Nevertheless, both clubs remain interested in the hard-running Collyer. Hull City, who have been promoted to the Premier League, are considered strong contenders to sign the United player, but they have not yet taken active steps. West Brom have already started negotiations, and transfer expert Simon Stone says the deal is still in its early stages.

According to him, another United academy player, 19-year-old left-back Harry Amass, is also considering a departure. Sources suggest that the backup to Luke Shaw is more likely to leave on loan rather than permanently.

In Michael Carrick's first-team squad, only one senior player might leave at the last moment of the summer window. Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee has attracted interest from Serie A clubs. He has been inefficient as a center-forward at United and is only a backup option when playing as a number 10. However, United will only allow Zirkzee to leave if they receive a suitable offer.
