Official: VFF Speaks Out Against Unsportsmanlike Conduct at U9 Tournament

On August 14, VFF sent a notice to all participating teams in the National U9 Football Tournament – Toyota Cup 2026, calling for an enhanced sporting attitude throughout the competition.

During the first matchday on August 13, 2026, aside from the exciting games, the organizing committee also noted a match that failed to fully demonstrate a positive, proactive, and determined effort to create scoring chances. For most of the first half, both teams primarily passed the ball in their own half, rarely mounted attacks, contested, or pressed, creating an unsightly image that drew widespread criticism from spectators and fans following the tournament.

VFF affirmed that, the U9 Football Tournament is the youngest age group in the national youth football system. In addition to competition and professional development, the tournament holds significant value in educating and training young players in sportsmanship, honesty, responsibility, discipline, and the spirit of Fair Play. Therefore, each match must be conducted with a positive, proactive, healthy competitive spirit and maximum effort.

Based on the above incident, VFF requests all clubs/teams participating in the tournament to seriously take note and implement the following:

– Compete seriously, proactively, positively, and exert effort appropriate to their abilities in matches.

– The coaching staff should strengthen education and guidance for players on a positive and responsible competitive spirit, contributing to protecting the image and reputation of the tournament.

– Uphold the spirit of Fair Play, compete honestly, respect opponents, and maintain healthy competition, thereby helping to protect the image and reputation of the National U9 Football Tournament – Toyota Cup 2026. VFF requests that clubs/teams seriously disseminate the above content to all coaching staff, players, and team members, especially in upcoming matches. VFF will continue to monitor match developments; if further instances of unenthusiastic play or conduct inconsistent with the tournament's spirit are observed, VFF will review and handle them in accordance with current regulations.

VFF believes that with the cooperation and efforts of all teams, the tournament will be a success, leaving a positive impression on the audience and the domestic football community.
