Bayern Munich beat RB Leipzig 3-1 to claim the 2026 Telekom Cup, yet the happiness of the "Grey Wolves" was marred by Konrad Laimer, Kim Min-jae, and Jamal Musiala all exiting the field because of fitness problems.

Bayern Munich entered the match against RB Leipzig with the aim of maintaining a positive buildup to the new season. The home side started proactively, but before they could make a difference, they received the first worrying signal.

In the 8th minute, Konrad Laimer felt unwell after a challenge with David Raum. The Austrian midfielder tried to continue playing but lasted only about two more minutes before being replaced by Sacha Boey.

Nevertheless, Bayern still found the opening goal in the 14th minute. Tim Binder dribbled from the flank into the center and made a pass that was intercepted by a Leipzig player. However, the ball accidentally fell to Luis Díaz, and the Colombian star quickly took advantage of the opportunity, firing home to put Bayern ahead.

Leipzig tried to respond and created several notable chances in the remainder of the first half. Most notably, a header hit the post in the 40th minute. Bayern also created further opportunities through Binder and Boey but could not double their lead before the break.

Early in the second half, Johan Bakayoko forced Manuel Neuer into a save. In the 52nd minute, Leipzig finally equalized 1-1 through Brajan Gruda.

However, Bayern quickly regained control. In the 57th minute, Aleksandar Pavlović delivered a beautiful pass for Nathaniel Brown to surge forward from the left flank. The defender handled it cleanly before beating Maarten Vandevoordt to restore the home side's lead.

Bayern's joy continued to be mixed with concerns over squad depth. In the 66th minute, Kim Min-jae went down and could not continue, forcing the coach to bring on Hiroki Ito as a replacement.

After a hydration break, Bayern introduced several new players, including Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies, and Ismael Saibari. The changes immediately paid off.

In the 81st minute, Saibari assisted Musiala, who executed a precise curling shot to make it 3-1. This goal effectively ended Leipzig's hopes.

However, just about five minutes later, Musiala had to leave the pitch after a collision and went straight to the tunnel. Bara Sapoko Ndiaye came on as his replacement.

Bayern held on to the 3-1 scoreline until the final whistle, thereby lifting the 2026 Telekom Cup. Luis Díaz, Nathaniel Brown, and Musiala were the goalscorers, while Saibari left a positive impression after coming off the bench.

The victory helps Bayern maintain a positive run of results in the preseason, but the cases of Laimer, Kim Min-jae, and Musiala will certainly be a major concern after the final whistle. Looking ahead, the "Grey Wolves" still have a match against Heidenheim to assess their squad before entering the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against Borussia Dortmund.
