With the summer window heating up, Manchester City's plan to revamp their midfield has finally made concrete progress. According to Argentine journalist César Luis Merlo, City has made a formal €120 million offer to Chelsea for Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández. This signals that City has activated a top-level Plan B in the context of Rodri's potential exit.

At 25, Enzo Fernández is currently in the prime of his career, with a market value of €100 million on Transfermarkt. As the Best Young Player of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, Enzo quickly became Chelsea's midfield linchpin after arriving in the Premier League. This past season, he made 54 appearances across all competitions, contributing an impressive 15 goals and 7 assists, showcasing his high-intensity play and ability to serve as a hub in transition between defense and attack.

The reason Manchester City is willing to spend heavily on Enzo is largely due to the explicit request of new manager Enzo Maresca. During his time coaching Chelsea, Maresca had a pleasant collaboration with Enzo, appointing him as vice-captain and fully unlocking his attacking potential. In Maresca's view, Enzo is the perfect candidate to fill Rodri's shoes. With Rodri having only one year left on his contract and a strong desire to leave, City is determined to support the new manager's vision this summer, aiming to reunite Enzo with his mentor at the Etihad.

However, this deal is bound to be challenging. Chelsea values their own captain at £120 million (approximately €139 million), and has set an ultimatum for City: submit a bid that fully meets the Blues' demands by 5 PM local time this Friday, or they will refuse to let him go this summer. There is still a gap of nearly €19 million between City's current €120 million offer and Chelsea's expected price.

To facilitate this deal, Manchester City is actively working. Having already spent £116 million to sign Elliott Anderson and negotiating with Ligue 1 side Lille for young talent Bouaddi, City's midfield overhaul has entered a concrete phase. If Rodri ultimately moves to Barcelona, the funds City would generate from his sale would be more than enough to cover Enzo's transfer fee.

With less than 24 hours left until Chelsea's deadline, this high-stakes game involving hundreds of millions of euros is about to be decided. If Enzo ultimately dons the Manchester City shirt, it will not only signal another reshuffle in the Premier League midfield landscape but also become the most crucial piece in Maresca's plan to build a new Blue Moon dynasty.
