Malaysian coach demanded to resign after defeat against Vietnam

After the feeble 1-3 defeat at Thien Truong and the script of being knocked out of the 2027 Asian Cup, coach Peter Cklamovski is confronting a severe wave of rejection from Malaysian professionals.

Malaysian football is experiencing its darkest days in its 100-year history. The 1-3 loss to the Vietnam national team on the evening of March 31 not only cost Malaysia the chance to advance but also exposed comprehensive weaknesses in management and coaching under coach Peter Cklamovski.

Dr. Zulakbal Abdul Karim, a seasoned Malaysian football expert, did not hesitate to sharply criticize the Australian strategist's capability. According to him, Malaysia's previous unbeaten record was essentially a "deceptive illusion" based on naturalized players. When FIFA tightened regulations and the naturalized players became ineligible to play, Cklamovski's true face was revealed.

Dr. Zulakbal firmly stated: “With good players, performance is good; without them, failure occurs. This shows Cklamovski is not a skilled coach. A coach's level should be demonstrated in the ability to elevate the collective, not just relying on existing talent. Therefore, I don't see why he should remain with the Malaysian national team.”

When compared with his predecessor Kim Pan-gon, Cklamovski's reign is considered a disastrous regression. Under Kim, Malaysia proudly secured a spot in the 2023 Asian Cup, but now they have become the "low point" of the region.

“Evidence shows the previous system under Pan Gon was effective,” Dr. Zulakbal remarked. He also expressed disappointment that the massive annual government funding of 150 billion dong did not yield results: “The current structure has failed despite significant government funding, and it was further damaged by the FIFA-related document forgery scandal.”

The scandal of forged naturalized player documents punished by FIFA is described as "the biggest disaster since the match-fixing scandals of the 1990s." While regional rivals like Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, and even Singapore have secured spots for the 2027 Asian Cup, Malaysia is struggling in its own chaos.

Expert Zulakbal warned bitterly: “For 100 years, we have struggled. Will we continue to fail for another century, or finally change? Neighboring countries have progressed, while we have regressed.” He urged the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to urgently restructure following Australia's 2006 model, starting by changing the coaching staff and tightening national team management.

Pressure is now fully on coach Cklamovski. After the defeat to Vietnam and a series of internal issues exposed, his future with the Malaysian national team is more precarious than ever.
