South Korean newspaper praises coach Kim Sang Sik as he approaches two records set by his predecessor Park.

Korean media assesses that coach Kim Sang Sik is nearing two records of coach Park Hang Seo while leading the Vietnamese national team.

The Osen from Korea praised coach Kim Sang Sik after the Vietnamese national team defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in a friendly match held on March 26.

This newspaper also stated that coach Kim Sang Sik is closing in on the record of Park Hang Seo, the former coach of the Vietnamese national team.

The Osen wrote: "Vietnam's national football team coach Kim Sang Sik (50 years old) has taken another step closer to two great achievements previously attained by his predecessor Park Hang Seo (69 years old). Under head coach Kim Sang Sik's guidance, Vietnam secured a dominant 3-0 victory by scoring three goals in the first half of the FIFA Day friendly match against Bangladesh, held at Hang Day Stadium."

The Osen reported that with this win, coach Kim Sang Sik's team has extended its unbeaten streak to 16 matches (13 wins, 3 draws) while leading the Vietnamese national team. This result leaves them just two matches away from the unprecedented 18-match unbeaten record of Vietnamese football (established under coach Park Hang Seo).

The Korean newspaper continued: "This victory also brightens the hope for advancement on the FIFA ranking table for the Vietnamese national team. Coach Kim Sang Sik's players are affirming their status as the strongest team in Southeast Asia through cohesive teamwork and excellent match management. Based on this momentum, the goal of rejoining the world's Top 100 is very close."

"Currently, Vietnam ranks 103rd on the FIFA ranking table, rising 5 places from the previous 108th position. Although ranked 18th in the Asian region (AFC), Vietnam currently holds the second position in Southeast Asia, after Thailand (ranked 96th)," the Korean newspaper affirmed.

The Osen added: "Notably, the Vietnamese national team also benefited from Malaysia being awarded a 0-3 defeat in both recent matches against Vietnam and Nepal, after being confirmed to have used an ineligible player. Malaysia's national team dropped 14 places to the 135th position."

According to Osen, the Vietnamese national team could return to the FIFA Top 100 if they defeat Malaysia in the upcoming rematch: "On the 31st, Vietnam will face Malaysia in the final match of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifying round at Thien Truong Stadium (Nam Dinh). Experts believe that if they win this match, Vietnam's chance of returning to the FIFA Top 100 is very high."

"The highest FIFA ranking in the history of the Vietnamese national team was the 94th position in December 2023, a brilliant milestone achieved under coach Park Hang Seo. If coach Kim Sang Sik defeats Malaysia, he will have the opportunity to approach another record left by his predecessor," the Korean newspaper emphasized.
