Vietnam's national team has just received a major boost ahead of the 2027 Asian Cup, as its position on the FIFA rankings rises by 5 spots, from 108th to 103rd globally. This significant progress gives the red-shirted squad an advantage in the upcoming group stage draw, scheduled for April 11, 2026 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Vietnam's ranking improvement stems from a result recognized by the AFC: a 3-0 victory over Malaysia on June 10, 2025. This outcome not only secured 3 valuable points but also helped Vietnam surpass rivals like Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, and North Korea in the rankings, opening the chance to be placed in the third seeding group for the Asian Cup.

A higher seeding group position holds strategic significance. Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team are more likely to land in a "comfortable" group, thereby increasing their chances of advancing deep into the tournament.
